After exploring the famous film sets of Atlas Studios, the journey continues south to the lush palm groves of the Draa Valley for an overnight stay.
The route then follows the ancient caravan road through Zagora and the historic village of Tamgroute, known for its cultural and religious heritage. From the desert gateway of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the landscape becomes wilder as you travel by 4×4 across the Sahara to the vast dunes of Erg Chigaga. Here you will spend two nights experiencing the magic of the desert, enjoying sunset and sunrise over the dunes, hiking through the sand, and sharing a picnic among the dunes before evenings of traditional music and stargazing at a desert camp.
After leaving the Sahara, the journey continues through remote desert landscapes to Foum Zguid and the Berber carpet town of Tazenakht, followed by a stop in Taliouine, Morocco’s famous saffron region. The day ends in the historic walled city of Taroudant, known for its traditional souks and impressive ramparts. From there, the route heads toward the Atlantic coast, passing through the seaside city of Agadir before reaching the charming coastal town of Essaouira.
The final part of the journey is spent relaxing and exploring Essaouira, a historic port city known for its UNESCO-listed medina, oceanfront ramparts, artistic atmosphere, and fresh seafood. Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech
Your journey begins with your arrival in Marrakech, the vibrant gateway to southern Morocco. After settling into your riad or hotel, spend the afternoon discovering the city’s atmosphere by wandering through the historic medina. You can visit lively souks filled with crafts, spices, and textiles, and end the evening at Jemaa el‑Fnaa, where street performers, food stalls, and traditional music create an unforgettable introduction to Moroccan culture. Overnight stay in Marrakech.
Day 2 – Marrakech – Telouet Kasbah – Ait Benhaddou – Atlas Studios – Draa Valley
After breakfast, depart Marrakech and cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Your first stop is the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family. Continue to the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages and a famous filming location. After exploring the kasbah and its narrow alleys, visit Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Later, drive south through palm groves and traditional villages into the lush Draa Valley, where you will spend the night.
Day 3 – Draa Valley – Zagora – Tamgroute – M’Hamid El Ghizlane – Erg Chigaga
Today you follow the ancient caravan route toward the Sahara Desert. Stop in Zagora, famous for the historic sign pointing toward Timbuktu. Continue to Tamgroute, known for its old library, green pottery workshops, and historic religious heritage. From there, drive to the desert gateway village of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, where paved roads end and the desert adventure begins. Crossing wild desert landscapes by 4×4, you will reach the magnificent dunes of Erg Chigaga. Enjoy sunset over the golden dunes before spending the night in a desert camp.
Day 4 – Exploration of Erg Chigaga
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the vast dunes of Erg Chigaga. Today is dedicated to experiencing the beauty of the Sahara. Enjoy a hiking excursion across the dunes, discovering the silence and immensity of the desert landscape. A picnic lunch will be served among the dunes, allowing you to relax and take in the scenery. In the evening, return to camp for dinner under the stars accompanied by traditional music. Overnight again in Erg Chigaga.
Day 5 – Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Tazenakht – Taliouine – Taroudant
After breakfast, depart the desert and travel across a remote desert plateau toward Foum Zguid. Continue to Tazenakht, a town well known for its traditional Berber carpets. The journey then leads through Taliouine, Morocco’s famous saffron-producing region. By late afternoon you arrive in Taroudant, often called the “Little Marrakech” because of its impressive ramparts and traditional souks. Overnight stay in Taroudant.
Day 6 – Taroudant – Agadir – Essaouira
After breakfast, depart Taroudant toward the Atlantic coast. Pass through Agadir, a modern seaside city known for its long beaches and marina. Continue north along the coast to the charming historic port city of Essaouira. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, white-and-blue architecture, and fresh seafood, Essaouira offers a perfect coastal escape. Overnight stay in Essaouira.
Day 7 – Discovering Essaouira
Today is dedicated to exploring Essaouira at a relaxed pace. Wander through the UNESCO-listed medina, visit the historic harbor and fishing port, and walk along the ramparts overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. You may also explore artisan workshops famous for thuya wood carvings or enjoy fresh seafood at the harbor restaurants. In the afternoon, relax on the beach or explore nearby coastal scenery. Overnight stay in Essaouira.
Day 8 – Essaouira – Marrakech
After breakfast, depart Essaouira and travel back to Marrakech through argan tree landscapes where goats are often seen climbing the branches. Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will have free time for last-minute shopping in the souks or a final stroll through the medina before the end of your tour.
